These Terms and Conditions apply to stays and other services at Madeirabrygga Kristiansund Resort & Casino (“Madeirabrygga”, “we”, “us”) booked through enquiries sent from charming-hotels-madeira.com. Please read them before you confirm a booking. The use of the website itself is governed by our Terms of Service.
1. Scope
These terms apply to accommodation, restaurant and bar reservations, spa treatments, casino visits, events and other services provided by Madeirabrygga to guests (“you”). Individual agreements made in writing, for example for groups or events, take precedence over these terms where they differ.
2. How booking requests work
- Request. You send us a booking request by email, for example using the booking bar or a “Request this room” button. A request is not yet a booking.
- Written confirmation. Our reservations team checks availability and sends you a written offer or confirmation by email, stating the room, dates, total price, deposit and cancellation terms.
- Contract. A binding contract is formed only when we send you our written confirmation and, where requested, you have accepted it or paid the deposit stated in it. Until then, neither party is bound.
3. Rates on request
All rates, menu prices and packages are provided on request and confirmed in writing before any booking. Applicable taxes and currency are stated in the written offer. Unless the written offer says otherwise, room rates include breakfast, access to Saltvann Spa and the Rooftop Pool, and Wi-Fi.
4. Deposits and payment
No payment is taken on the website. For some bookings, especially suites, longer stays and peak periods, we may ask for a deposit as stated in the confirmation, payable by a secure method we send you directly. The balance is paid at the hotel at check-in or check-out. We accept major payment cards; details are given in the confirmation.
5. Cancellation and no-show
- Rooms (Harbour Room and comparable categories): free cancellation up to 7 days before the day of arrival.
- Suites (Fjord Suite and Madeira Suite): free cancellation up to 14 days before the day of arrival.
- For later cancellations we may charge up to the price of the first night, or of the full stay where the confirmation states a non-refundable rate.
- No-show: if you do not arrive and have not cancelled, we may charge the price of the first night and release the remaining nights.
- Groups and events: cancellation terms are set out in the individual contract.
Please cancel in writing to [email protected]. Any amount we charge will never exceed the loss we actually suffer, and we will deduct what we save or earn by re-letting the room.
6. Check-in and check-out
Rooms are available from 15:00 on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 12:00 on the day of departure. Late checkout can be requested and is offered free of charge when availability allows. All guests must present a valid photo ID at check-in, as required by Norwegian guest registration rules.
7. Guest conduct, smoking and pets
We ask all guests to respect the peace of others, especially between 23:00 and 07:00. Madeirabrygga is a historic timber building: smoking and vaping are prohibited in all indoor areas and on balconies. A special cleaning fee, stated in the written offer, may be charged where smoking in a room makes special cleaning necessary. Open flames other than our own lanterns are not permitted.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome in selected Harbour Rooms by prior arrangement, for a cleaning fee stated in the written offer. Pets are not permitted in the restaurant, the cellar, the casino or the spa. Assistance dogs are always welcome.
We may refuse service to, or ask to leave, any guest whose behaviour endangers others or seriously disturbs the operation of the hotel.
8. Children and age-restricted areas
Children of all ages are welcome in the hotel. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them. Salthuset Casino and The Madeira Cellar are 18+ areas, and the Rooftop Pool is reserved for adults after 18:00. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times in the pool areas.
9. Salthuset Casino house rules
- Entry is permitted only to guests aged 18 and over. A valid photo ID (passport, national ID card or driving licence) must be shown at every visit.
- The dress code is smart or evening wear. Sportswear, beachwear and caps are not permitted.
- The right of admission is reserved. We may refuse entry or ask any guest to leave without stating reasons, for example to protect guests or comply with the law.
- No credit is extended for gambling, and casino staff will not lend money or accept IOUs.
- Table limits are displayed at each table and are available from our casino hosts on request.
- Guests can request self-exclusion for a period of their choice. Our staff will arrange it discreetly, and it will be respected for the agreed period.
- Photography and phone calls are not permitted at the tables.
Responsible gaming: gambling should be entertainment, not a way to make money. Set limits before you play and never chase losses. Free and confidential help in Norway is available from Hjelpelinjen on 800 800 40 (hjelpelinjen.no (opens in a new tab)).
No gambling of any kind is offered on this website. Salthuset is a land-based casino that can only be visited in person at the hotel.
10. Restaurant, bar and alcohol rules
In line with Norwegian law, alcohol is served only to guests aged 18 and over, and spirits (drinks with 22% alcohol by volume or more) only to guests aged 20 and over. Staff may ask for ID and may refuse service to anyone who appears intoxicated. Guests may not bring their own alcohol into public areas. Table reservations at Brygga Restaurant are held for 15 minutes; please tell us about allergies when you book.
11. Spa and pool safety rules
- Please shower before using the pools and saunas.
- There is no lifeguard on duty. Guests use the pools, sauna, steam room and cold plunge at their own risk and must follow the posted safety signs.
- Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult in the pool areas; the Rooftop Pool is adults only after 18:00.
- No glass, diving or running in the pool areas.
- Guests with heart conditions, high blood pressure or who are pregnant should consult a doctor before using the sauna or hot pools.
- Treatments cancelled less than 24 hours in advance may be charged in full.
12. Events and conferences
Meetings, conferences, weddings and private events are confirmed under an individual written contract that sets out the spaces, services, number of guests, prices, deposit, payment schedule and cancellation terms. The final number of guests must be confirmed no later than seven days before the event. Decorations and technical equipment brought by the organiser must be agreed with us in advance and must comply with fire safety rules for a historic timber building.
13. Liability and lost property
We are liable for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence by us or our staff, and in all other cases as required by mandatory law. Our liability for valuables not deposited in the in-room safe or the reception safe is limited as permitted by law. Guests are liable for damage they cause to the building, furnishings or other guests.
Items left behind are kept for three months. On request we will send them to you at your cost; unclaimed items may then be donated or disposed of.
14. Force majeure
Neither party is liable for failure to perform its obligations where this is caused by events beyond its reasonable control, such as extreme weather, natural disasters, epidemics, government orders, strikes, power failures or the closure of transport links. In that case we will offer alternative dates or refund any amounts paid for services that cannot be provided.
15. Complaints procedure
If something is not as it should be during your stay, please tell our staff straight away so that we can put it right. Complaints after your stay can be sent in writing to [email protected]. We will acknowledge your complaint within five working days and aim to resolve it within 30 days. Consumers in Norway may also contact the Norwegian Consumer Council (Forbrukerrådet) for advice and mediation.
16. Governing law and consumer rights
Contracts for accommodation and services at the resort are governed by Norwegian law, as the services are provided in Norway. If you are a consumer living in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer.
